Mallorca Open 2019 top-seed advanced to semifinals after beat Caroline Garcia in straight (6-3 7-6). Angelique Kerber needed one hour and 35 minutes to defeat french and meet Belinda Bencic on Saturday looking for a spot in the final.

Kerber started breaking opponent service and making it again at ninth game to close first set. The german served for match also in second set ninth game but Garcia could force the tie-break. Then, the french wasted 2-5 in the breaker and a five points in a row from Kerber decided the match.

World No. 6 will play at Mallorca Open her fourth season semifinals. In Doha she lost against Elise Mertens (6-4 2-6 6-1). Then, at Indian Wells, she beat Belinda Bencic (6-4 6-2) before fall in the final against Bianca Andreescu (6-4 3-6 6-4). Finally, she lost in Monterrey semifinals against Viktoria Azarenka (6-4 4-6 6-1).

Tough test

“It is really nice to be in the semifinals here. I mean I played really good in my first tournament o grass. Against Belinda [Bencic] we played very tough matches in the past and now she is playing very well in the last weeks and I think that will be a high level match”, said Kerber.

This one will be sixth match between both. Bencic started winning early three at US Open (2014), Cincinnati (2015) and FedCup (2016). Last two matches had won by World No. 6 at Wimbledon fourth round (6-3 7-6) and Indian Wells semifinals again in stragiht (6-4 6-2).
