Angelique Kerber will return to the WTA Mallorca Open, which will be held at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club from 17th to 23rd of June. Kerber, who was recently honoured as Germany’s female sportsperson of the year, is looking forward to the 2019 edition of the grass-court tournament. In this fourth edition, the Championship will also count the main national tennis players.
Toni Nadal will once again be the Tournament Director, a position he occupies for the third consecutive year: “Mallorca Open has been consolidating every year and we are convinced that this year will be better than ever. The confirmation that Angelique Kerber comes to play this tournament is the best possible illustration of the importance of this event, with the reigning Wimbledon champion choosing to shape up her game there two weeks before the third Major of the season”.
Anabel Medina, captain of the national team, was also at the event and stressed “the importance of a tournament of this level in Spain. Players have the opportunity to compete at home and prepare in the best way Wimbledon, the most important event in the tennis world. In addition, it is very important to have this tournament at home because it gives the opportunity to young players to play a professional tournament of high-level”.
